As the poster above suggests, we’re honoured to play X-Ray Horse’s first birthday. Congratulations guys, I didn’t know you could keep a horse contaminated with that amount of concentrated radiation for the period of a 12 months and still pull off a great line up like this one, effort. We’re headlining the evenings festivities, supported by the Elephant Keys, Nephu Huzzband, Roman Android and DJ’s sets by Lucy? and X-Ray Horse DJ’s and a special set from our tentacle trio DJ, Baron Von Badd.

We’re also supporting the Broken Door in the launch of their debut album on the 27th of February @ The Dog and Partridge in Bolton. We originally put them on last year at the still hiatal improv night Consoul and recently did a spot of recording for Emma from TBD, also be on the look out for Barkers remix of a new Broken Door track.

Good friends From the Kites of San Quentin are performing one of their future dub, vocoder, wonder marvel sets. Should be interesting. Last time we got together was great and seriously painful the next morning. Shouts to El Bloody Boyo.

Also on the bill are Manchester based quintet, With That Knife playing, what has to been described to me as a northern take of At The Drive In & Motion City Soundtrack. Check ‘em out

On top of all that we’re heading back into the studio very soon to record our second E.P; and it’s going to surpass the first volume in everyway. All of the songs we’re recording are heavyweight.

On Friday, I’ll be Manchester. From the Kites of San Quentin are hosting ‘This City is Ours’ and are bringing the Tentacles and myself over the pennines to rock a special one off performance in Salford at the Sacred Trinity Church. Tickets are £5 in advance and it’s being powered by Gash soundsytem. I’ve been told that the building is fantastic and is an amazing place to hold a live performance, because of the gigs surroundings tickets are limited and punters have been asked to respect the building, so no funny business. Saturday we’ll be playing down in Bristol at The Junction.

I’m also having some technical difficulties with some plug-in’s on the site so at the moment the Tweet Feed and the MP3 Player seem to be down, I’ll have those back up and running A.S.A.P

DJ Risco – Filthy Few

Friday night was great, in three words it was loud, messy and surreal. I’ve never had the pleasure to have people bum rush the stage, see a blind emcee move the crowd and watch Ms. Dynamite apply make up all in one night; like I said surreal. Renegade Brass Band tore the roof off, I was happy to shout over the top of them, the crowd was exceptionally positive through out the whole performance. One person was so into the rhythm he found himself on stage before being hauled off by Security. The Nextmen were great, unfortunately our set times kind of ran through both of our performances so we only caught the last fifteen minutes of their set. They did a real good remix of Major Lazer and Santigold with High Contrast that I managed to catch, dopeness. Brad and Dom thought Rory the drummer from Renegade Brass Band looked like a miniature DJ Yoda.

Here’s a few images from our previous outing to the Harley to offer support alongside Chris Noble and friends Screaming Maldini for the intense and layer heavy BLK JKS. Who are currently running rampant/sleeping somewhere in Europe touring their debut album After Robots.

- And also happen to be the nicest band we’ve ever had the pleasure to play with. They were digging are sound too, which was  humbling. I ended up hanging around with Molefi, their bassist for most of the night and after their performance, exchanged details and CD’s and the sorts, maybe we’ll see something in the future.

Also, in the way of updates, the site has a new theme and a new look. There’s also some code running behind the scenes that’s been updated. Including some updates. I’ve added a few plug ins that will help with the aesthetics and make the site easier to use. For example, in the post below, there’s now a streaming MP3 audio player that looks fantastic, and works very well. Thanks wpaudio. There’s also a new Facebook connection that syncs with your account and allows you to log into my site and add comments using your Facebook account. You can also choose to show the topics of discussion in your news feed which is pretty cool. I’m also going to work on getting Myspace and Twitter synced soon.

Renegade Brass Band – Sheffield Live 93.2FM Interview (11.11.09)

Ms. Dyamite is a two-time Brit award and three-time Mobo award winner. Which is nice… Her first album also received the Mercury Music Prize in 2002 and has since gone on to sell over a million units, going Platinum in the process.

The Nextmen released their debut album Amongst The Madness on the revered 75 Ark imprint. Originally intended to be a Mo’ Wax-style instrumentals album, their label began sending the beats out to rappers in the States and before they knew it, The Nextmen were hip hop producers, working with Public Enemy, Blackalicious, The Pharcyde and Morcheeba. – TheNextmen.com

Trojan Sound System formed in 2004. The Sound System has already had hugely successful shows as a single entity and with the greatest names in reggae and beyond including DJ Vadim, The Gentlemen’s Dub Club, DJ Yoda and the Scratch Perverts.

The Renegade Brass Band is a 10 piece funk collective from Sheffield. Citing Youngblood Brass Band, Rebirth Brass Band and the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble as influences. The Renegades play an all-brass mix of funk, hip-hop and soul including Stevie Wonder, Mark Ronson and Cannonball Adderley to name a few.

I’m also proud to say I was one of the people involved in puttin’ on the Renegade Brass Band’s first live performance alongside Baron and The Legend of the 7 Black Tentacles at our currently hiatal live-music improv night Consoul. Their drummer Rory has also guested with the Tentacles at live shows as a second drummer and is also one third of the much hyped Cobra Fist.

Doors open at 11.00 PM and we’re hitting the stage at 12.30 AM, there’s also the Tuesday Club Residents warming up the tables. First Word Records founder Andy H always knows how to rock a crowd so come down early. Adv. tickets are £6 (free drink) and can be purchased from The City Hall, Hallam Hubs, The Lyceum and online from the Sheffield Union.
